Horizon Homes, a 1960s program that encouraged architects to work in concrete, is the subject of an upcoming book by Laguna Niguel author Ted Wells. Speaker Mike Johnson on Wednesday told Republicans that the House would vote Saturday evening on his foreign aid package for Israel and Ukraine, pushing through resistance in his own party to advance a long-stalled national security spending package for U.S. allies. John Lautner—a Frank Lloyd Wright apprentice, known for Los Angeles-area homes including the Chemosphere and the Arango House in Acapulco (RECORD, May 1997)—completed the house for artist Helen Sheats and her husband in 1963. "Horizon House is a village—it’s a community. There's just so much happening. We’re both very impressed with the variety of programs and issues that are discussed. It’s kind of like being on a university campus."

He was intrigued by the round dwelling, with its pie shape and cantilevered concrete roof as well as the uninterrupted wall of glass that forms the perimeter of the house with every room opening to the outdoor landscaping and views.

The location of the Goldstein Skyspace art piece is in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles. The difficult building site made the logistics of constructing the concrete shell structure on a caisson foundation difficult. The Goldstein Skyspace was original envisioned by owner James Goldstein to be a collaboration between artist James Turrell and architect John Lautner, states the website ‘Architectoid – Learning Architecture for life’. Unfortunately Lautner passed away before the project came to fruition.

Goldstein purchased the property in 1972 and painstakingly restored it with Lautner. After Lautner’s death in 1994, Goldstein worked with a Lautner protégé to construct a three-story “entertainment complex” next door; the building includes Club James, which recently hosted a combined Valentine’s-Grammy nomination party for producer Mark Ronson and Jamie xx.
